Minority Television Project Proposes 70-Unit Apartment Building in Palo Alto

A San Mateo-based nonprofit, Minority Television Project, has proposed a 70-unit apartment building at 555 College Avenue in Palo Alto.

The six-story project, which will also include ground-floor commercial space, is one of the first to utilize Senate Bill 79, a new state law promoting transit-oriented development.

SB 79 allows for taller, denser housing projects within a half-mile of major transit hubs, in this case the California Avenue Caltrain station.

This is the nonprofit’s second proposed project in Palo Alto using SB 79, as they also plan a 24-unit office-to-residential conversion nearby.

These projects aim to help Palo Alto meet its state-mandated housing target of 6,086 new units by 2031.
